Summer @ the Movies
Summer is a great time to escape the heat and retreat inside to the cool of the movie theater. It's a great time to let yourself escape into the worlds of mythical dragons, aliens and fantastic voyages. Few things say relaxation and family fun like popcorn, Coke and a good movie.
Past Sermon Series
Life is Good
Life is good. It's a simple statement. Yet, sometimes it is hard to remember. Life gets busy. Life gets complicated. Life gets stressful. Sometimes we forget. But in scripture, God has a word for us. God's word reminds us that life is good and there is more to this good life than just being happy or wealthy or content. God reminds us... that God is good. Creation is good. Having each other is good. And yes, even work is good. Pirates of the Galilean
In the midst of life Jesus called the ones that would be His disciples. They would spend a good bit of their time together on the shores and in the water of the Galilee. As they went from town to town, Jesus showed them how to live in a world of uncertainty, failure and danger as one of His. They would encounter demons, leaders, heathens and rocky terrain, but through it all, Jesus would show His followers how to live as a disciple. Join us through Lent as we engage our inner pirate and hit the seas with Jesus learning about His way of discipleship.
A Journey in Faith
The world we live in is not monochromic either; it's beautifully diverse. And just like our landscape, this is also true of our religious traditions. Whenever we leave our homes, we encounter people, whether we know it or not, that aren't Christians. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to receive a blessing in a Buddhist temple? Or to pray beside a Muslim? Or to hear one of your favorite Old Testament scriptures being read in Hebrew in a synagogue? Have you ever wanted to journey with someone who understood God in a different way?
During January, I will tell some of these stories. I will share some my stories of how I met withreligious leaders from other faith traditions and heard their stories. As I tell you some of their stories maybe you will hear some of your story in there, too. Perhaps their stories will inspire you; change you; empower you. And maybe, you will be able to draw closer to God as you hear how others have drawn closer to God. Join us as we journey in faith through the many colors of the world, discovering God at work.
You Should See the Stars Tonight...
You should see the stars tonight How they shimmer shine so bright Against the black they look so white Comin down from such a height To reach me now, reach me now... And how could such a thing Shine its light on me And make everything beautiful again... Several years ago, David Crowder wrote those words. They are words that remind us of the Christmas story. A story of unlikely characters who saw the Light and made their way to it: a; a husband-to-be; the wise men; a jealous King; the shepherds. All saw the Light and were drawn to It. And the Light shone on them and they were never the same. young teenage girl
This Advent, we will walk to the Light with these men and women. Hear their stories. Follow in their steps. And rediscover the Light.
Game Show
Growing up I loved being on summer vacation from school. How many kids don't, right? Sure, I loved to sleep in and run around outside playing and riding the neighbor's Dukes of Hazzard big wheel, but one of my favorite activities was watching Game Shows during the day. I used to love the complexity of Card Sharks - higher! lower! freeze! and the ability to vicariously shop on the Price is Right. I remember watching reruns of the Dating Game and The Newlywed Game thinking that I probably shouldn't be watching this. I loved to try to answer the questions on Jeopardy and to figure out if the celebrity was telling the truth on Hollywood Squares. It was amusing to watch the faces of the families as they tried to support each other, yelling "good answer", when it was clear that the answer that they had given Richard Dawson was not so good.

Fast Food - What Are You Hungry For?
Fast Food restaurants are known for their ability to fill our needs in record time. You drive up, you shout your order into the box and they statically repeat your order back to you. You hand over the cash and in return, they hand over some variation of the food that you ordered. Regardless of how you feel about the quality or the nutrition of fast food, you have to admit that they deliver what they are known for (though I do wonder if that can really be steak if it only costs .99 cents). Sometimes it is just great kid toys, sometimes it is an atmosphere and sometimes it is a sense of belonging.
What comes to mind when you think of the wilderness? Do you think of the dry, cracked, parched earth? Do you see barrenness, wasteland? We often view the wilderness as a scary place. I mean, Jesus spent 40 days there in temptation, who wants to sign up for that? But when we go to Scripture and we read these amazing stories from the wilderness, an amazing thing happens. Instead of encountering snakes, vultures and wild animals that can run faster than your first car, what we discover is God. God waiting for us. God meeting us. God with us. Join us for 40. 40 days that will change the way you view the barren moments in your life.
Daily life usually sets us on a path that's almost robotic and we forget to see God in all things - the good, the tragic, or even the mundane. Think of your day today. Did you see Him in your kids' laughter, the homeless person on the corner, or even the papers you stapled? He was there. Join us for the first two weeks in February as we discover how to see God in everything.
![]() "Origins"
The story of the birth of Christ is a story that has changed the world, but sometimes we get lost and forget about the power of the story. It's easy to do-the tensile is so shiny after all and the LED lights dance as the twinkle. We have allowed ourselves to be drawn away from the simple beauty of the birth narrative and thrown into traffic jams, long lines, huge debt and unneeded stress. An event that marks the fullness of time, the indwelling of God among us now leaves us feeling empty as we ponder the unwanted gifts that we have received, the bills we have to pay and the disappointment of not being able to give everybody everything that they want. Advent is a time where we prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ. We remember His first coming and look forward with great expectancy to His return. Sometimes we forget that. This year, let's focus our hearts on God. This year, let's be intentional about rediscovering the power of the Advent and Christmas. This year, let's be intentional about reclaiming the meaning of Christmas as we remember how to worship fully, spend less, give more and love all.
